The Best is Yet to Come – Frank Sinatra

Retirement represents for many people a closure of the life chapter, perceived transition from an active employment stage to the passive stage of the physical, emotional, and psychological decline. That is definitely a false perception as the retirement for many becomes a real time for the dream fulfillment, freedom to pursue the delayed before due to the busy life interests and activities. Practically, you may consider this life stage of numerous opportunities. But, the transition might be challenging nevertheless, and the responsibility to restructure the life canvas still remains the personal responsibility.

Yes, the best is yet to come!

The expression “the best is yet to come” means that all the events occurring in your life right now will eventually be surpassed by better events in the future. The best is not yet here, but it will arrive at some point in the future.

"The Best Is Yet to Come" is a 1959 song composed by Cy Coleman to lyrics by Carolyn Leigh. It is associated with Frank Sinatra, who recorded it on his 1964 album It Might as Well Be Swing accompanied by Count Basie under the direction of Quincy Jones. It was the last song Sinatra sang in public, on February 25, 1995, and the words "The Best is Yet to Come" are etched on Sinatra's tombstone. Although Sinatra made it popular, the song was written for and introduced by Tony Bennett.

The song was played as a wake-up call for the crew of Apollo 10 on May 22, 1969. The historic day marked the first time that the Lunar Module flew solo in lunar orbit as it made man's closest approach to the lunar surface to date

Lyrics

Out of the tree of life I just picked me a plum

You came along and everything's startin' to hum

Still, it's a real good bet, the best is yet to come

Best is yet to come and babe, won't that be fine?

You think you've seen the sun, but you ain't seen it shine

Wait 'til the warm-up's underway

Wait 'til our lips have met

And wait 'til you see that sunshine day

You ain't seen nothin' yet

The best is yet to come and babe, won't it be fine?

Best is yet to come, come the day you're mine

Come the day you're mine

I'm gonna teach you to fly

We've only tasted the wine

We're gonna drain the cup dry

Wait 'til your charms are right for these arms to surround

You think you've flown before, but baby, you ain't left the ground

Wait 'til you're locked in my embrace

Wait 'til I draw you near

Wait 'til you see that sunshine place

Ain't nothin' like it here

The best is yet to come and babe, won't it be fine?

The best is yet to come, come the day you're mine

Come the day you're mine

And you're gonna be mine
